He said divergence of views was nothing new in Sikh religion. It becomes obvious when one section is ruling and other section wants to change progressive thinking.

“The panthic parties, who are soon to hold Sarbat Khalsa, are part of Sikh community only. The efforts will be made to bring them to the common platform after proper consultation,” he said, while addressing media here at Gurdwara Dukhniwaran.

On rising sacrilege incidents of Guru Granth Sahib in Punjab, he said such incidents were indeed unfortunate.

“I will reach out to masses and seek their co-operation in order to ensure that such incidents don’t happen,” he said. On being asked on the review of Nanakshahi calendar that was implemented during his first presidency in 2003 to determine the dates for important Sikh events, he said the changes did occur in the calendar finalised during that time.

On the use of religion in Sikh politics, he said religion and politics always went hand in hand in Sikh history and in fact both protected each other in the hour of need.
