The Lohian Khas police have charged Jatinder Singh, a resident of Kakkar Kalan village, his father Gurbux Singh, alias Gachhi, his mother Lalkhinder Kaur and brother-in-law Rajinder Singh with attempt to murder and committing crime with common intention.
The case was registered on a statement from Sandep Kaur (23), who told the police that her in-laws had been harassing her for dowry, since her marriage with Jatinder Singh in 2009.
She said that her husband was living in Kuwait, but had stopped supporting his parents. She said that her mother-in-law poured petrol on her on Friday night and set her afire.
Her neighbor Narinder Kaur rushed her to the civil hospital. SHO Manjit Singh said that no arrests had been made and further investigations were on.
He said that a case had been registered under Sections 307(attempt to murder) and 34 (committing crime with common intention) of the IPC.
