During this, Jagadhari resident Madhu Mittal, who owns a Sector-25 petrol pump, even charged at her attacker and suffered a minor injury after the third bullet fired at her brushed her right ankle.

The attacker managed to flee and is yet to be arrested. Mittal, around 40, had gone to the HDFC Bank branch in Sector 25 to deposit the Rs 4.25 lakh, when a man with his face covered ran towards Mittal as soon as she got off her car, and tried to snatch her handbag, but failed as Mittal did not let go.

He then drew a pistol and shot at her twice, but Mittal used her briefcase as a shield both times; she then charged at him with the briefcase, making him fall down. As the attacker fell, he fired another shot which brushed Mittal's ankle, injuring her.

Chandimandir SHO Jai Prakash said they had registered a case of robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt.

Preplanned robbery

Police suspect the attack to be preplanned. The victim used to go to deposit money at the Sector-25 bank between 11am and noon every day. Deputy commissioner of police Ashwin Shenvi said, "An insider may be involved. We have a few leads."
