Station house officer, Sadar, Sikander Singh said the though the police were trying at their best, the body was yet to be recognised. He said all police stations have been sent the photo of the victim in order to establish the identity of the deceased.

The body was spotted floating by area residents and was fished out of the canal by the volunteers of Sahara Jan Sewa organisation near Bir Behman bridge on Sunday morning.

The SHO said looking into the circumstances it seems that the woman was thrown into canal with a purpose to murder her as her hands were tied with a rope behind her back and her mouth was covered with a handkerchief. The body does not have any injury mark.
