Women driving without helmets go scot-free

When women two-wheeler drivers violate the traffic rules , the traffic police ignore them. Though the government has deployed women traffic police personnel but despite that most of the challans have been of male offenders.

Interestingly, the women patrolling police also don't follow the traffic rules as they can be seen driving without wearing the helmet. Most of them don't wear safety helmets.

While the city police organizes traffic awareness campaigns for the residents, but it contiue to ignore women who violate traffic rules.Their safety is too at stake while driving without helmets.

According to a former traffic inspector, departments concerned are providing them helmets but they still they do not wear it.

Opinder Singh, resident of Raghu Majra, said:" The police challan us when we don't follow rules but apparently there are no such rules for the girls. They drive rashly and use mobile phones while driving but the police don't issue challans to them. Why these double standards?

He said he would ensure that all police women wear helmets while driving on duty, as the police has to practise it first before enforcing it in the public.
