The civil lines police have registered a case against some Youth Congress workers for pasting picture of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on a 108 ambulance. Among those booked under the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act is former district Youth Congress chief Vikas Soni.
The Youth Congress activists had pasted the picture of the Prime Minister on the ambulance a couple of days back. The YC workers had been claiming that the ambulance service was a central scheme and Punjab government was taking undue credit by pasting chief minister Parkash Singh Badal's picture on the ambulances.
Interestingly, in a tit-for-tat act, some Youth Akali Dal leaders had pasted pictures of leaders of their party at the railway station. The police are yet to take action in this connection.
Reacting to the case registered against him, Vikas Soni said, "This is clear vendetta. We can't say much but we will definitely continue with our protests. If the police are neutral they must also register a case against Youth Akali Dal activists who had pasted posters of their leaders at the railway station."
When contacted Amritsar police commissioner Ram Singh said, "A case has been registered against the Congress leaders under the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act." When pointed out that YAD activists too had passed posters at the railway station, he said that he was not aware of that.
