25-year-old dies in hit-and-run in Chandigarh

A 25-year-old man was killed while his cousin was critically injured when a speeding car (CH01-AZ-7406) hit their motorcycle at the Sectors 46/47/48/49 light point here on Sunday afternoon.

A 25-year-old man was killed while his cousin was critically injured when a speeding car (CH01-AZ-7406) hit their motorcycle at the Sectors 46/47/48/49 light point here on Sunday afternoon.

The police ar rested the accused car driver following a protest by victim’s relatives and area residents.

The deceased was identified as Chintu, a resident of Kendriya Vihar Society, Sector 49, Chandigarh. The injured, Bunty, was riding the motorcycle. The incident took place when Chintu and Bunty had gone to Sector 46 for some work.

As they were on their way back home, a car coming from SAS Nagar hit their bike near the light point. the car driver sped away after the accident. A passerby called the police control room.

The police rushed the injured to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, from where doctors referred Chintu to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, where doctors declared him brought dead. Bunty is still undergoing treatment at the GMCH-32.

The police ar rested the accused, identified as Mandeep Singh, a driver with the income tax department. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act of endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Sector 49 police station. the police have also impounded the car.
