Youth, 3 others get life for father’s murder

A court here on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to a youth, his wife and his two friends for murdering his 60-year-old father over a property dispute at Badrukhan village in the district.

A court here on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to a youth, his wife and his two friends for murdering his 60-year-old father over a property dispute at Badrukhan village in the district.

Announcing the judgment, additional sessions judge Varinder Aggarwal also imposed a fine of `65,000 each on all the four accused namely Buta Singh, his wife Rajpreet Kaur, and Buta’s friends Sarabjit Singh of Palasaur village and Nirmal Singh of Khadadpur village in Patiala district.

Talking to HT, senior lawyer Gurtej Singh, the counsel of Jaswant Kaur, wife of the victim, Jaggar Singh, and a resident of Badrukhan village, said Jaswant Kaur had filed a complaint in the Longowal police station on February 28 last year that her husband had gone missing.

On a tip-off that Jaggar Singh had been killed, the police recovered his body from Nadampur canal near Sadanwas bridge after two days. During investigations, police found that Jaggar Singh’s younger son had killed him with the help of his wife and two friends. They threw his body in Nadampur branch canal near Bhawanigarh to destroy evidence.

The police submitted in the court that on the day of murder, Buta had called his father to his place on the February 28 morning when Jaggar was going to fields. Along with his wife and friends, Buta killed Jaggar with sharp-edged weapons and threw the body in the canal. The accused have been sent to the district jail, Sangrur.
