34-year-old Harpreet Singh, a resident of Kussa village under Nihal Singh Wala sub-division, 34 km from here, was allegedly gunned down in the village by three motorcycle-borne youths early morning on Thursday.

The Badhni Kalan police have booked Sukhraj Singh, Manpreet Singh Manu and an unidentified person of Kussa village on the statement of the deceased's father Gamdoor Singh. However, no arrest has been made so far.

The deceased's father Gamdoor Singh complained to the police that his son Harpreet Singh was going to the fields on his tractor early morning. When he reached near a workshop in the village, three motorcycle-borne people opened fire at him and fled after killing him on the spot.
Gamdoor told the police that Jugraj Singh, brother of Sukhraj Singh, was murdered in 2010 in a group rivalry and the accused in the murder case Sukhpreet Singh of Kussa village is in the jail at present.

"We had taken land of Sukhpreet Singh for cultivation on lease. Due to this reason, Sukhraj Singh was against our family and he had threatened us several times for canceling the land deal with Sukhpreet Singh," said the deceased's father.

Harjinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Badhni Kalan police station, said, "As soon as we received information about the incident, we reached the spot and recovered the body of Harpreet Singh. We brought the body at Dr Mathura Dass civil hospital, Moga, and after autopsy, the body was handed over to the family."

"We have constituted a special investigation team for nabbing the culprits. The police have raided various places and I hope that we will catch the culprits soon," said the SSP.
