The state cabinet on Tuesday approved national hydrology policy for better management of surface and ground water and national aviation policy to improve regional connectivity.
On the hydrology policy, the cabinet cleared the decks for setting up an institute for water and land management in Ranchi.
The institute will collect data related to surface, ground water, floods and share information with the government.
The government will spend Rs 60 crore in two phases.
The aviation policy is aimed at improving the regional connectivity. Besides, improving the infrastructure, the policy will attract the operators by giving them 1% rebate in value added tax. A MoU will be signed in this regard between the ministry of civil aviation (GoI), Airport Authority of India and the Jharkhand government.
Jharkhand has one functional airport and 11 old airstrips. Plan is on the anvil to set up an international airport in Deoghar, besides, starting air services from other cities by introducing small carrier aircrafts.
The CM Teerth Yatra scheme, which was also approved, will help the elderly people (60 years and above) belonging to below poverty line families to go on pilgrimage – both by rail and roadways. A person can avail this benefit twice in his/her lifetime.
The Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation (JTDC) will soon sign an agreement with the IRCTC in this connection. The pilgrims can take along one attendant too. The government has earmarked Rs 1.6 crore for the scheme.

According to the pilgrimage policy, elderly persons of BPL families can opt for 26 pilgrim destinations from the two sets - within Jharkhand and outside.
