Muzaffarpur: Alcoholic kills mother who refused him money for drinks

A 23-year-old man bludgeoned his 46-year-old mother to death on Saturday following a dispute over her alleged refusal to give him money to satiate his addiction to alcohol. The incident took place at Mahanth Maniyari village under Maniyari police station in Muzaffarpur district of north Bihar.

A 23-year-old man bludgeoned his 46-year-old mother to death on Saturday following a dispute over her alleged refusal to give him money to satiate his addiction to alcohol. The incident took place at Mahanth Maniyari village under Maniyari police station in Muzaffarpur district of north Bihar.

The accused Vivek Kumar crashed a slab of stone used to grind spices on his mother Vibha Devi’s head after a quarrel over his demand for money, the police said.

The matricidal man, who is unmarried, was apprehended by the police from his home, soon after the incident.

“Vivek was in inebriated state when we arrested him from his home,” station house officer of Maniyari PS, Pramod Kumar Singh said on Sunday. He confirmed Devi died on the way to hospital due to severe bleeding.

Radha, daughter of the victim and the assailant’s younger sister, told the police that a heated exchanges ensued when Devi refused Vivek money, saying he ought to start earning to finance his alcohol addiction.

Thereafter, she said, her brother went out and returned home late in the evening in an inebriated state and hit Devi repeatedly with the stone slab.
