RANCHI: The state capital is in for a huge makeover before it hosts Jharkhand’s first Global Investors’ Summit (GIS) scheduled on February 16 and 17. More than 6,200 business delegates from 26 countries are expected to participate in the summit.
In bid to give make the city attractive, the outer boundary walls of Ranchi Airport are being decorated with eyecatching paintings, road flank landscaping and widening of prominent roads, with construction of long drains.
Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has been entrusted with the responsibility to beautify the city before the mega event, which is being promoted by none other than Jharkhand icon and former team India captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The 15-km road stretch from Birsa Munda Airport to Khelgaon, particularly from Kanta Toli to Dipatoli that had been in dilapidated state for more than five years, have already been repaired and roadsides are being decorated with paver tiles. Prominent roundabouts and open spaces are being landscaped.
Ranchi municipal commissioner Prashant Kumar said the RMC?is putting its best effort to create a festive look before the global summit.
“We will be sprucing up major locations. Where landscaping is not possible, such as on over bridges on MG road, flower pots will be used on flanks to make them beautiful. Besides, the entire street lighting system has been replaced with energy efficient LED lights,” Kumar said, adding, more than 1600 flags in six colours would be put up across the city with promo walls of ‘Momentum Jharkhand.’

{{/usCountry}}Cleanliness has been a major issue. The city was ranked 62nd in the previous Swachch Survekshan-2016. Kumar said that altogether three city cleanliness enforcement squads (CFS) have been set up to maintain cleanliness and ensure encroachment free roads.
“Garbage heaps and debris of building materials are also being cleared from the city. Special focus has been given to cleanliness in the city,” he said.
The RMC has also launched a special drive to stop practice of urinating in open. The corporation team has started fining Rs 100 on violators, besides installing 40 modular urinals across the city in the last one month.
