To protest cancellation of affiliation of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS): College of Nursing for 2016-17, over 150 students went on an indefinite strike on Sunday. They also staged demonstration in front of RIMS director’s office.
The students alleged that Indian Nursing Council (INC) had scrapped the affiliation of the RIMS college of nursing due to shortage of faculty. The situation had emerged despite the fact that the INC had informed the college administration in this regard on January 27.
A fourth year student said, “If the college failed to get affiliation, we will face immense problem. We will not get admission in other college and also have to struggle for job.”
As per the INC guideline, at least 29 faculty members are required for a college of nursing, however, there are merely four teachers in the RIMS college of nursing.
The INC had scrapped the affiliation in 2013 also, but after the college administration promised to recruit faculty soon, the affiliation was restored.
RIMS acting director Dr RK Srivastava said of the required 29 faculty members, 20 had been recruited and the process of recruiting remaining nine was on. “We have submitted a compliance report to the INC and now it will take a call,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}However, the students are not in a mood to relent. They said the agitation would continue till the college administration got the letter of affiliation from the INC. They alleged that the college administration had been taken the INC directive lightly for last three years. “We want concrete action,” they asserted.
