Actor-producer Udhayanidhi Stalin is on a remake signing spree. Gearing up for the release of Priyadarshan directed Nimir, the Tamil remake of National award-winning Malayalam drama Maheshinte Prathikaaram; he’s said to have signed the Tamil remake of another Malayalam film, Happy Wedding. Despite the mixed response to Manithan, Udhay seems to have taken a liking to strong, content-rich films and this probably explains his recent choice of films. Though Happy Wedding was made on a small budget, it earned huge profits at the box-office when it released in 2016. The news about the remake was shared by the film’s director Omar Lulu with a picture of himself posing with Udhay.
At the audio launch of Nimir, slated to release this week, Udhay took pride in being part of the project. He said he never expected to play the lead ever in a Priyadarshan film. “It was a very new experience working on the project. There were no scene papers and even the assistant directors wouldn’t know what Priyan sir was going to shoot. Nevertheless, the experience was very new for me. A lot of actor vied to grab the remake rights of the film. I’m glad we got the rights. Visually, it’s the most beautiful film of my career,” Udhay said, adding he’d love to work with Priyadarshan again.
On the career front, Udhay also has a project with national award-winning filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy in the offing. This yet-untitled film will see him share screen space with Tamannaah for the first time in his career.
