“I’ve been waiting since 5:00 am,” says Sardhar Khan, a die-hard Rajinikanth fan. “It’s Thalaivar; I’m happy to do it,” he grins, protectively clutching his first day first show ticket to his chest.

His fans are an eclectic and mixed bunch, but all are sure of one thing: The imminent success of Kabali, his latest film. Perhaps most exciting is the fact that the movie sees the return of Rajinikanth as an aging don, a role he will be reprising for the first time since that cult classic, Baasha.
