The music of Dhanush’s Maari 2 will be by Ilayaraja’s son, Yuvan Shankar Raja.

We had already reported that Dhanush and Balaji Mohan have joined hands for Maari 2 and the shoot began towards the end of last year. On Tuesday, maestro Ilayaraja recorded a song for the film and the entire team was blessed and super thrilled with the honour. Dhanush took to twitter and wrote: “So happy to announce that maestro isaignani Ilayaraja sir sang a song today for Maari 2. What a delightful divine experience. We feel so blessed and super thrilled.” Dhanush also shared pictures from the recording session.

Interestingly, the film has music by Ilayaraja’s son Yuvan Shankar Raja, who has reunited with Dhanush after nine years. The duo last worked together in 2008 film Yaaradi Nee Mohini, a remake of Telugu film Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule. The film marks the first time collaboration of Sai Pallavi with Dhanush, while Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas plays the antagonist. In Maari 2, Dhanush will return as a dhoti-clad, mustache twirling local rowdy. Actors Robo Shankar and Vinod, who played Dhanush’s sidekicks, have been retained in the sequel. It has also been confirmed that the film, to be bankrolled by Wunderbar Films, will be made as a bilingual and is being simultaneously shot in Tamil and Telugu.

After wrapping up Maari 2, Dhanush will commence work on his second directorial project in which he will also play the lead. The yet-untitled project is expected to go on the floors from May or June and will be bankrolled by Sri Thenandal Studios.
