Actor Priyadarshan Jadhav is known as a prankster among his co-stars and friends. A fun-loving and energetic human being and artist, Priyadarshan has been entertaining audiences over the years with films such as Timepass 2 (2015) and Jai Maharashtra Dhabha Bhatinda (2013). The actor-writer will now be making his directorial debut with Maska. Ask him about his popularity as a prankster on the sets and he says, “I am not a prankster. People give me a chance to trouble them or prank them and then I have to oblige,” laughs Priyadarshan, who is seen in Prakash Kunte’s Cycle with Hrishkesh Joshi and Bhau Kadam.
Priyadarshan believes an actor should not be choosy or picky about his/her films. “Honestly, I am a follower of actor Mohan Joshi. Just look at his career graph. There is no detailing or method acting. Similarly, I believe there is no method for acting. When picking a project, I look at the script, not my character, and I say yes if I feel like doing the role irrespective of whether the film is good, bad, ugly or horrendous. The real challenge of an actor is to take up complicated and exciting roles,” he says.
So, what was it about Maska that made him want to make his directorial debut with it? “Well, the many frauds that are happening around us triggered the thought for this film. I also spoke to a friend of mine who works with the police and he told us a couple of facts which we used to create a fictional story. The film is contemporary and entertaining but not in the regular way. It is quirky,” says Priyadarshan, who admits that he feels he is a better film director than a theatre director. “I am pretty confident of my direction skills because it is easier than theatre. Directing a play is like eating an entire cake at one time, where while directing a film, I can enjoy the cake, choose the flavour and relish it at my pace.”
In 2018, Priyadarshan will be making his second directorial venture with a film titled Fools that will go on floors in September. As an actor he will be seen with Aniket Vishwasrao in Majhya Baikocha Priyakar and Shreyash Jadhav’s Me Pan Sachin.
