Kamal Haasan says that it is a shame for the ruling government and the then Chief Minister (J Jayalalithaa) when a citizen says that there is no justice here, regarding controversy around Vishwaroopam.Updated: Jul 26, 2018 21:41 IST
Kamal Haasan, who is currently promoting his upcoming film Vishawaroopam II, spoke to the media on Wednesday in Chennai. While talking about the sequel to the highly controversial Vishwaroopam, the actor said that he almost walked away in frustration the last time.
Contrary to the belief that controversies help films have a better run at the box office, Kamal said, “The first controversy sort of obliterated the film as an ‘aesthetic’ work. People are only talking now of Vishwaroopam as a work to be seen. This film might recreate interest in Vishwaroopam in the rest of the country, at least. It makes a strong geo-political statement.”
He further added that he was ready to leave the industry because of the injustice meted out by the state government to a small company that produced Vishwaroopam. “It is a shame for the ruling government and the then Chief Minister (J Jayalalithaa) when a citizen says that there is no justice here. The idea was to make them understand the injustice they were meting out.”
Speaking about Vishwaroopam 2, Kamal said that it is both a sequel and a prequel as it goes back and forth in time. He said, “This is a prequel and a sequel. The root of his (Wisam Ahmad Kashmiri, protagonist of Vishwaroopam) patriotism is shown in this film.” He added that Vishwaroopam II will also throw some light on the other pivotal characters in the film and add depth to them.
Vishwaroopam II is produced, directed and written by Kamal Haasan. The film is slated to release on August 10 worlwide, in time for the Independence Day weekend. The actor is also currently hosting the reality show, Bigg Boss Tamil season 2.
