Asking a woman out can be tricky, intimidating and even scary, especially if you're shy or don't like making the first move. But if you want to date, and don't know where to start, we're here to help.

Remember, you are not asking her to marry you - it's just coffee, a drink or dinner. So, start your love story with an act of courage and just ask her out, before anyone else does!

Follow this step-by-step guide to make a move and hopefully, make her like you back.

Get her number: Please don't ask her out on Facebook or Twitter, or ask a friend of yours (or hers) to invite on your behalf. Call her. And call her at least three or four days before you want to take her out. But, if you can't muster the courage to call her, then quit already, because you aren't ready to date. Whatever you do, never text and ask a woman out, just because it takes all the fear of rejection away. This will not go down well and make her say a big 'no'. End of story.

2 Have a plan: Most women like men who know what they're doing. So, let her know you're serious about her. Figure out where you'd want to take her, on what day and at what time, before you ask. Since you're doing the asking, it's your job to have a plan. Take her to a public place. No long drives and picnics in the middle of nowhere. You do wish for a second date, right? So, stick to a place she's more likely to say yes to. Pick a place that's sort of unique and has good atmosphere.

Listen to her, make her feel comfortable: Yes, you read it right. You should listen to her. And not stare at her like a perv. Ask her questions about herself, what she's interested in, what she loves or hates. Keep the conversation light. Topics like politics, kids, marriage plans, racial/caste comments are off limits for now. Do not, under any circumstance, divulge these - your childhood secrets, family drama, psycho ex-girlfriend, sexual history, video game addiction, tie fetish and the like.

Make her laugh:

This is very important. Try some self deprecating humour or tell a joke. Share a funny story. Do anything to get her to laugh. Gentlemen, if you do nothing else, do this. Show her you're funny, and you'll see more of her. If you fail here, well, you've killed your chances (more or less). This is a date, remember? And no one wants an unexciting, uninteresting date.

Pay the bill: Pull out your wallet and pay, when the time comes. You asked her out, didn't you? Now pay for it (no pun intended). All we ask is be a gentleman, till the very end.

Now, call her within two-three days of the date and ask her out again. Follow-up is the key. Then, repeat these steps; and enjoy your time with her!
