Long distance relationship (LDR) is like waiting in a restaurant for your order to arrive but you don’t really know when will you be served. To get into a LDR or not is a dilemma for many.

Can’t stop thinking about the hottie you met at your best friend’s party, but not calling him because he lives too far? To get into a long distance relationship (LDR) or not is a dilemma for many.



If you ask Hollywood actor Hayden Panettiere, who has separated from her Ukrainian boyfriend, boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko, she’d certainly advise you to look for someone in your own city. The couple headed for splitsville after dating for 18 months, after they realised how tough it is to carry on a relationship when living in different continents.



So, what makes an LDR so tough? When love involves air travels, phone bills that consume almost half of your salary, and jealousy pangs when you see your friends hanging out with their partners, does the relationship become exhausting?

Relationship expert Dr Kamal Khurana says, "A LDR is like waiting in a restaurant for your order to arrive but you don’t really know when will you be served. There are a lot of uncertainties involved, unless the couple decided upon a definite time when they will be together forever." The lack of physical presence of the partner can be painful when a person hits a crisis.



But if the commitment levels of the couple are strong, distance can’t separate them. "It’s about the compatibility between two people that matters the most," says psychiatrist Dr Avdesh Sharma. Agrees media professional Vick Khokhar, who met his wife Zoon Ali online,
