It turns out if people spend more on their engagement ring and wedding day, they are likelier to get divorced than the ones who don't, says a new study.

Emory University professors conducted a study on over 3,000 US men and women who had been married to a member of the opposite sex, where Professors Andrew M Francis and Hugo M Mialon found that men who spent between 2,000-4,000 dollars on engagement rings were 1.3 times likelier to get divorced than the ones who shelled only around 500-2,000 dollars, the Independent reported.

According to Brides magazine, wedding bills and divorce rates may be linked due to the stress couples tend to experience from the debt their wedding day possibly put them in.
However, it also said that having a lot of guests at the wedding and going for a honeymoon, regardless of cost, was positively associated with the length of a marriage.
