KOLKATA: Arindam Ghosh made 125, becoming the first batsman in India to score a pink-ball century and if Mohammed Shami now finishes with 10 wickets, it would have ticked all the boxes for Mohun Bagan in this experiment.

Shami again tried to intimidate with speed and bounce and got rewarded. Unlike on Day 2 of this four-day CAB Super League final, he also bowled a long spell from the High Court End at Eden and bowled the yorker. He trapped Abhishek Das with one that cut back after pitching and got Writtick Chatterjee with bounce when the Bhowanipore skipper couldn’t get his bat away.

Shami also hit Partha Sarathi Bhattacharya below the ribs forcing the batsman to retire. But when he tried that earlier to Subham Chatterjee, he got pulled for a six. Subham Chatterjee so far has been the only batsman to not be intimidated by the India pace ace.

Medium-pacers again had a field day on a green top with Bhowanipore’s Ayan Bhattacharya taking six wickets. He had four on Sunday and cleaned up the tail before spinners Writtick Chatterjee and Sujit Yadav took three wickets between them as Mohun Bagan, with a first innings lead of 146 runs, tried to force the pace.

Overnight batsmen Ghosh and Anustup Majumder did that. After Majumder fell, Sanjeev Sanyal added 75 runs for the eighth wicket with Ghosh. Ghosh made 125, hitting 11 fours and five sixes before holing out to long-on.

Three days of pink ball cricket had Majumdar making 83 on the Day 1, Shami taking 5/42 on the next and Ghosh getting a ton on Day 3. The only thing that hasn’t happened so far is the ball turning. On that would hinge how soon India play a pink ball Test at home.
