MUMBAI: Greg Louganis is the only male diver to sweep the 10m platform and 3m springboard diving gold medals in consecutive Olympics — 1984 and 1988. However, he almost failed in the 1988 Seoul Games after his head struck the springboard during qualifying. Suffering a concussion, Louganis made the brave decision to have his wound stitched up and complete the preliminaries, qualifying in third place. He went on to win the final — even successfully completing the reverse two-and-a-half somersault that saw him get the injury — and later won the 10m platform gold as well.
