MUMBAI: Former India pacer Abey Kuruvilla has applied for the national senior selection committee a day before the deadline to submit applications for Board of Control for Cricket in India’s senior, junior and women’s selection committees.
Kuruvilla confirmed applying for the senior selection panel. “Yes, I have applied,” Kuruvilla told the Hindustan Times on Tuesday.
Kuruvilla suffices all the criteria that the BCCI listed in its application. Kuruvilla, who played 10 Tests and 25 ODIs, retired from international cricket in 2000. In the following season, Kuruvilla took up the U-16 selection role for the Mumbai Cricket Association. The lanky pacer was India’s junior selection committee chief when Unmukt Chand & Co lifted the U-19 World Cup in Australia in 2012.
Kuruvilla was MCA’s choice from west zone for the senior India selection panel before the then BCCI president N Srinivasan surprised everyone by appointing Sandeep Patil as chairman of selectors.
BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke has said that they have received a phenomenal response for the coveted job.
