Murray persuaded United States-based Lendl to f ly to London this week to start a second spell as the world number two’s coach two years after they parted ways.

The 29-year-old won Wimbledon, the US Open and an Olympic gold medal in his previous stint with Lendl. But former Wimbledon champion Becker claimed he didn’t expect to see the pair get back together because Jamie Delgado, another member of the Scot’s coaching team, had been doing a solid job.

“I was a bit surprised I must say,” Becker said. “I think (Jamie) Delgado did a good job, Andy’s never played better on clay.”

On Saturday, the Brit moved a step closer to a record fifth Queen’s Club title with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Marin Cilic.

LAHIRI, JEEV MISS CUT

OAKMONT: Indian duo of Anirban Lahiri and Jeev Milkha had a long and arduous day at the US Open as they missed cut. Lahiri shot 73 and 78 in his two rounds, while Jeev had cards of 76 and 79.

Former world number one Lee Westwood took the lead midway through the second round with two early birdies. England’s Westwood was five-under through four holes, his birdie at the par-five fourth vaulting him over clubhouse leader Dust in Johnson, who fired a 69 for four-under 136.

SATISH, SUMIT ADVANCE

BAKU: Indian boxers Satish Kumar (+91kg) and Sumit Sangwan (81kg) registered easy wins over their respective opponents to enter the second round of the World Olympic Qualification tournament here.

Satish beat Manase Kaho Raikadroga of Tonga 3-0 in his first round clash while Sumit outclassed Trinidad’s Andrew Fermin by a similar margin.

Satish is expected to face a stern test in the next round against experienced Dean Gardiner of Ireland while Sumit will take on eighth seed Juan Carlos Carrilo Palacio of Colombia.
