Defending champion and four-time winner Venus Williams beat Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-4, 6-3, and two-time champ Serena swept 19-year-old Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-4, 6-0. The Williams sisters are in opposite halves of the draw and could meet in Saturday's final.

Serena will meet Zheng Jie in the semifinals. Jie became the first Chinese player to reach a Grand Slam semifinal as the wildcard claimed an historic 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 victory over Czech 18th seed Nicole Vaidisova. Zheng, the lowest ranked player left in the women's singles, was playing in her first Grand Slam quarter-final, but the world number 133 produced a heroic display to blow Vaidisova away in the final set.

The two have been twice before in the Wimbledon final, with Serena winning both in 2002 and '03. "That would be amazing if we both were in the final," the seventh-seeded Venus said.

Venus will next face No. 5 Elena Dementieva, who wasted a 5-1 lead and two match points in the second set before beating Nadia Petrova 6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-3 to reach her first semifinal in Wimbledon.
