Pep Guardiola fielded only two of his regular starting 11 at the Nou Camp and both of the home side's goals were scored by promoted players from the B team.

Andreu Fontas struck in the 51st minute when his left-foot shot was deflected into the net off Vitaly Kaleshin and Victor Vazquez added a second with a fine curled effort.

Inter slumped to a 0-3 loss in northern Germany to Werder Bremen and finished behind Champions League debutants Tottenham Hotspur in Group A after the London club featured in another goal-fest by drawing 3-3 against Twente.

By failing to win their group Inter now face the prospect of being drawn to play Barcelona in the next round.

Manchester United's defence was finally breached after some eight hours of group-stage football when they conceded their first goal in this season's competition at home to Valencia in what was a shoot-out for first place in Group C.

Schalke will enter the draw as group winners after winning 2-1 against Benfica in Lisbon. Olympique Lyon were runners-up in Group B after drawing 2-2 at home to Hapoel Tel Aviv and Benfica will drop into the Europa League

A Danish dream
London:
FC Copenhagen became the first Danish club to reach the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday after flooring Panathinaikos 3-1 to finish second in Group D.

Panathinaikos, who finished bottom of the group, controlled the first five minutes of the game but then allowed the home side to assume control on a frosty night in Copenhagen.

Copenhagen finished with 10 points, behind unbeaten Barcelona on 14, and are only the second Nordic team after Norwegian club Rosenborg to make it so far in the competition's current format.

"We need to avoid Real Madrid and the three big British teams to go beyond the next stage," coach Stale Solbakken told reporters.
Panathinaikos coach Jesualdo Ferreira, who took charge in the middle of the campaign, turned his attention back to the domestic league.
