Former runner-up Elena Dementieva of Russia has started her French Open campaign in ruthless fashion with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Croatia's Petra Martic.

The fifth-seeded Dementieva hit 23 winners and committed only 14 unforced errors to advance into the second round in just 66 minutes on Monday.

Dementieva, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, lost to fellow Russian player Anastasia Myskina in the 2004 final at Roland Garros.
