The 76 members, who had gathered at the National Sports Club of India, were in for a surprise after 31 members walked out citing improper electoral procedures. The walkout did not deter the remaining members. They not only conducted polls but also elected their president, secretary and treasurer.

According to sources, Umesh Sood is the new president while Hemchand and DK Bose were elected as secretary and treasurer respectively. The DSA were originally scheduled to hold elections after the AGM but the outburst of some members forced president, Subhash Chopra, to adjourn the meeting and delay the elections.

"They (Chopra and other officials) knew that they didn't have majority to come back to power," a source told HT. "They raised objections over minor issues as they did not want the elections to be held and eventually walked out."

Despite attempts, DSA honarary secretary, NK Bhatia and Chopra could not be contacted.
