India keep a clean slate in Shenzhen

India maintained their perfect start in the Fed Cup by defeating Oman 3-0 in Shenzhen, China, on Tuesday. Playing in Pool B of the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II event, India had thrashed Iran by a similar scoreline on Monday. HT reports.

India maintained their perfect start in the Fed Cup by defeating Oman 3-0 in Shenzhen, China, on Tuesday. Playing in Pool B of the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II event, India had thrashed Iran by a similar scoreline on Monday.

Isha Lakhani began the day's proceedings with an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Maliha Al-Awaidy in the first rubber. However, young Rutuja Bhosale faced some resistance before overcoming Fatma Al Nabhani 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 in just under two hours.

India received a walkover in the doubles.

With the two wins, India sit atop Pool B and will take on Turkmenistan on Wednesday.

In the round robin stage, Philippines have emerged a close challenger as they too began with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Iran on Tuesday. Pool A is wide open with Hong Kong, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan and Singapore having recorded a win each. After the round robin stage, the winners of Pool A and B will face off on February 4 for a berth in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group I in 2013.
