Former champion Amelie Mauresmo of France is out of the Australian Open, beaten in straight sets by Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.

The 20th-seeded Mauresmo, who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2006 for her only two Grand Slam singles titles, lost 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday.

No 13 Azarenka was already up a service break at 4-2 in the final set when she broke Mauresmo again, winning the game when Mauresmo netted a forehand. The Belarus player then held her serve in the next game, winning the match when a Mauresmo forehand went wide.
Azarenka will play Serena Williams in the fourth round.
