Swiss dominate Italians in Davis Cup play-off

Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka handed Switzerland a perfect start against Italy in the Davis Cup World Group play-off here on Friday, each notching up straight-set wins for a 2-0 lead.

Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka handed Switzerland a perfect start against Italy in the Davis Cup World Group play-off here on Friday, each notching up straight-set wins for a 2-0 lead.

Wawrinka was first up, inflicting a 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 victory on Andreas Seppi, while Federer shrugged off his US Open final defeat last weekend to ease past Simone Bolelli, winning 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 in 1hr 40min.

On Saturday, the Italian duo of Fabio Fognini and Potito Starace take on Federer and Wawrinka in the doubles, with the return singles matches scheduled for Sunday.
