Tara takes Abby road to next round

Iyer tackled her opponent without any complaints to clinch a victory against Australia's Abby Hedges 6-1, 6-1, reports Deepika Sharma.

If you have the zeal and chutzpah to succeed, nothing can come in your way. On Wednesday, while the rest of the players at the ITF women's tournament were struggling to play in the searing heat, a gutsy Tara Iyer remained unaffected, as she cruised through to the third round.

Iyer tackled the heat and her opponent without any complaints to clinch a convincing victory against Australia's Abby Hedges 6-1, 6-1.

Though the match didn't see any zooming aces, smashing of racquets or players arguing with the umpire, Iyer's awesome serves and strokeplay made it a great match.

Iyer displayed an array of shots right from the start to completely demoralise her Aussie opponent. Hedges, who appeared rusty and erratic, failed to hold her serve in the second game itself. While Hedges' forehands just refused to earn her any points, Iyer dominated the game with her perfectly executed returns.

With a 4-1 lead, Iyer broke Hedges once again with a superb forehand return that earned her a breakpoint in the sixth game. A nervous and unsettled Hedges never came back in the match and surrendered the first set 6-1 to the Indian.

Meanwhile, the Bhambri sisters, Sanaa and Ankita, also made it to the third round without much difficulty. While Sanaa outclassed Sonal Phadke 6-1, 6-3, Ankita defeated Korean Jung-Yoon Shin 6-1, 7-5. However, top seed Rushmi Chakravarthi crashed out after losing 6-1, 6-3 to Korean Kyung-Yee Chae.
