Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz US Open 2025 final Highlights: Carlos Alcaraz avenged his Wimbledon defeat as he reasserted his superiority over rival Jannik Sinner with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. It was his second career Grand Slam title in the US Open, having earlier won in 2022, and a sixth overall in his career. The match witnessed a delayed start owing to security measures over the arrival of the US President Donald Trump, who sat in the sponsor’s suite and received a mix of cheers and boos. This was his first visit to the iconic arena since 2015, when he was received by American tennis legend John McEnroe.
Besides the second set, where Sinner roared back after a sluggish start under the closed roof, with his consistent baseline striking to counter the Alcaraz forehand, it was the Spaniard who dominated throughout. He hit 42 winners to Sinner's 21 and dropped just nine points behind his first serve in the riveting two-hour, 42-minute display.
Alcaraz became the second youngest man at 22 to win six Grand Slam singles titles in the Open Era after Bjorn Borg, and the third to win multiple Slams in New York before turning 23, after John McEnroe and Pete Sampras. Since the US Open’s switch to hard court in 1978, the Spaniard became the first player to win multiple Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces before turning 23.
Sinner, on the other hand, witnessed his 27-match winning streak in hard-court majors come to a heartbreaking end, and he also lost the world no. 1 ranking after being at the spot for 65 consecutive weeks. The defeat also prolonged the New York curse as Roger Federer remains the last man to have successfully defended his US Open singles crown since 2008.
