Venus Williams’ participation in the French Open looks in doubt after the American withdrew from the warm-up event in Brussels.

Organisers of the Brussels Open said the 30-year-old would not be competing because of injury. The world number 19 has not played since retiring from the Australian Open in January with an abdominal injury.

Meanwhile, David Nalbandian will miss the event after an illness hampered his recovery from a hernia operation and a muscle injury. His comeback was hit by a fever in training.
