Thousands who are expected to travel to Yuba Bharati Krirangan (YBK) for the Friday show starring Lionel Messi will run the risk of digging into their own pockets in case of an accident inside the stadium during the match.
Entry No 7 under Terms & Conditions printed on the back of the tickets reads: "The organizers are not responsible for any type of injury suffered by the ticket holder while attending the event."
Even those who attend the generally sparsely crowded I-League matches at the YBK are insured. Although the All-India Football Federation was in the dark about this issue vis-à-vis Friday's match, it confirmed that the interest of spectators is taken care of during the country's premier football tournament. "The entire I-League is insured. Spectators are covered for up to Rs 2 lakh individually and the total amount for spectators is Rs 50 lakh," said I-League CEO Sunando Dhar, who added that the AIFF pays an annual premium of Rs 6.8 lakh for this.
Organisers of the Argentina-Venezuela match, the Celebrity Management Group (CMG), refused comment when asked whether the match was insured. "This is a matter of internal policy and we can't divulge such information," said Dharamdutt Pandey, CEO of CMG. On the clause on the tickets about injuries to spectators, Pandey said: "I will not say anything about this."
