Larry Edema from Michigan, who was present in the audience on September 13 when Winfrey, 56, announced the giveaway, said she had a certified public accountant on hand to address the tax issue right after the taping, TMZ.com reported.

Edema said the CPA informed the group that all taxes associated with the trip would be “handled by the Oprah show”, so the trip would truly be 100 percent free.

The CPA also explained that Winfrey would cover all sightseeing costs and travel-related expenses, including passport costs for people who can’t afford them.

Winfrey had landed in a big controversy in 2004 when she gifted brand new cars to audience members, which saddled them with 7,000 dollars as gift taxes.
