Veteran Indian tennis player Leander Paes will partner 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal of Spain in the men’s doubles at the $3.63 million Paris Masters to be played on the indoor hard-courts of the Palais Omnisports in Bercy next week.
Paes on Thursday lost his quarter-final match at the ongoing Valencia Open partnering Poland’s Lukasz Kubot but will now look to reach the last stage of the Paris meet.
The 42-year-old Paes tweeted about the announcement on Friday.
Paes has had a fantastic year, having won the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open mixed doubles titles with Swiss ace Martina Hingis. In men’s doubles, Paes has teamed up with several players this season. Nadal will be the Indian’s 106th doubles partner; former Indian player Zeeshan Ali was Paes’ first partner in 1990. The Spaniard on the other hand has had a poor year by his standards, not winning a single Grand Slam in a season for the first time since 2005.
