Influencer gets police security after ‘threats’ for yoga at Golden Temple

Fashion designer and social media influencer Archana Makwana performed ‘sirsasana’ at the Golden Temple on June 21 to mark the International Yoga Day and posted pictures of it on social media which went viral, drawing criticism, abuses and death threats.

On Sunday, Akal Takht jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh had said yoga asanas hold no significance in Sikhism.

Furore as video of woman performing yoga at Golden Temple goes viral

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has suspeded its two employees for “negligence”. Another has been fined and transferred. A complaint has been sent to the police.

According to SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, nobody can be allowed to perform such act which goes against the Sikh principles.
