Mahatma Gandhi 150th Birth Anniversary: ‘Mahadev was like a son to me’

A previously unpublished note, found in the notes of Pyarelal, Mahatma Gandhi’s secretary, describes Gandhi’s feelings about Mahadev Desai’s death. Desai, who joined Gandhi as a 25-year-old, died 25 years later, imprisoned with the Mahatma in 1942. He was more than Gandhi’s secretary — he was his chronicler.
