The ED said Harish Gahlot had transferred Rs 1 crore to Dubai last September as an advance payment to buy two flats. This money was sent by hawala, the informal network to transfer money abroad through Harish Gahlot’s younger son Nitesh, the agency alleged.

Income Tax dept to increase reward money for informers, widen network

Under current guidelines, an informer gets Rs 1 lakh as an instant reward if the tip-off leads to tax recovery. The rest of the reward money – 10% of the total tax liability with a maximum cap of Rs 15 lakh – is subject to the final settlement of the case.
