Jagan Reddy’s Tirumala visit kicks up a row, protests follow

Andhra CM Jagan Reddy, a protestant Christian by faith, ignored the demands of the Hindu groups and the opposition parties that he should follow the decades-old tradition of signing the declaration form meant for non-Hindus, stating that he has faith in Lord Venkateshwara.
Jagna Reddy wore traditional attire of a Hindu devotee, sported the “Thiru Namam” (the Vaishnavite style of tilak on the forehead) and carried the silk clothes on his head into the temple to present them to the Lord on behalf of the state government, amidst chanting of Vedic hymns. (HT Photo )

743 Tirupati temple staff tested Covid-19 positive since June 11

Of the 743 infected, three employees succumbed to the dreaded contagion and about 402 personnel have recovered so far from infection while 338 people were undergoing treatment at different Covid care facilities, TTD executive officer said.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the country’s richest shrine, held an emergency meeting of officials and priests on Thursday, but turned down the demand for a temporary suspension of darshan for devotees.

Reliance offers 1.11 crore to Tirumala shrine for temple- run pilgrim free meal trust

Tirumala shrine’s meal scheme, which benefits about one lakh devotees daily on the Tirumala Hills and at select places in Tirupati, is run by the TTD utilising the interest accrued on the over 1,000-crore corpus contributed by devotees since 1985, a temple official added.
