Election Commission rejects Opposition demand to tweak VVPAT counting process

Leaders of 22 political parties had yesterday urged the Election Commission to ensure paper slips from the VVPAT (voter verifiable paper audit trail) module are matched before the counting begins so that in cases of discrepancy, all votes in that particular assembly segment can be cross-checked with the paper slips.

VVPATs to delay declaration of results by three hours in Maharashtra

The votes for the state’s 48 constituencies will be counted at 48 centres at 38 locations. In Mumbai, the counting for six constituencies will be held at three locations.

Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Tallying of VVPAT slips may delay results in Jharkhand by 3-4 hours

Even though the counting of votes will begin from 8 am, declaration of results might be delayed by three to four hours due to counting of voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT), as the Supreme Court’s guidelines, election officials said.

Election watchdog had turned down VVPAT count plea

Some political parties say that EVMs are susceptible to tampering. VVPAT machines, attached to EVMs, display the name of the candidate and his/her symbol on a piece of paper after a vote is cast. The voter can see the paper through a glass display for seven seconds before it drops into a sealed container to ensure the vote has gone to the intended candidate.

All-women booths, VVPAT machines among several poll firsts for Delhi

Efforts are on to provide pick-up and drop facilities to persons with disabilities (PWDs). And along with all other states, this will be the first time that Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines are deployed in all polling stations.
