Watch | Underwater volcano’s explosive eruption in Vanuatu island

The Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-hazards Department on February 1 shared these photographs on Facebook to let the netizens witness the splendid view of the overall devastation sent flying into the sky.

The department while sharing the photos on Facebook wrote, "Early this morning, reports and observations from locals at Epi indicate an increase in the activity of the East Epi sub-marine volcano at around 7:48am with steam over the sub-marine volcano area. There are also reports of Sulphur dioxide followed by phreatic explosions propelling ash some 100 meters high."

Social media users are reacting to the phenomenal incident. A user wrote, "OMG! This came from under the water, my goodness!"

According to AFP, some witnesses of the event said that the ground began to shake and smoke above the site was visible in the early morning hours. However, not long after, explosions from the Vanuatu volcano eruption began to ring out across the nearby shore.

Such eruptions cause several issues and sometimes lead to breathtaking results like newly birthed islands popping up, the report added.
