Around seven or eight unidentified persons, suspected to be activists from the Republican Party of India (Athavale), pelted stones at the Andheri office of television channel Colors on Thursday afternoon.

“Prima facie, it appears that the accused were RPI activists who were demanding eviction of cartoonist Aseem Trivedi from reality show Bigg Boss,” said S Talegaonkar, senior inspector, Vile Parle police station.

However, they have not been identified yet and our investigation is in progress,” Talegaonkar added. No one sustained injuries in the incident.

According to the Vile Parle police, around 2 pm on Thursday, the accused arrived in an SUV while two of them rode a motorbike at the television channel’s office located at Parsi Panchayat Road in Andheri (east).

They then started pelting stones at the office and a few glasses of the building were reportedly broken.

The police said that they would be scanning the CCTV footage of the area to identify the accused, who have been booked for rioting.

Trivedi was booked under sedition charges for his cartoons displayed at MMRDA ground in December last year.

The charges were recently revoked by the Maharashtra government.
