's lead actress Rucha Gujarathi updated

Chesta Wadhwani

about her upcoming film release

Lottery and

Star One show

Phir Koi Hai

So, what’s new bhabhi?
A lot actually — there’s a new TV show and also my film, Lottery.

But Lottery is old news.. it has been ready for a while now. Why the delay in release?
It’s finally ready to hit the theatres. We were just waiting for the right time. I play the role of Zoha who helps Abhijeet (Sawant) come out of a crisis.

Weren’t you sceptical that your co-star is a singer?
Initially I was about co-starring with a complete newcomer. But when I saw Abhijeet’s audition, I was zapped. I called the producer and thanked him for his choice.

Okay. What’s the new TV show about?
It’s a Star One show Phir Koi Hai, and the plot revolves around an orphanage. I play an orphan, Nandini. You have never seen me in a role like this before.

The producers of Bhabhi want you back on the show. How do you feel about it?
(Smiles) It’s like winning an award. It was actually the viewers who wanted me back.. they wrote mails requesting my return. It’s unbelievable! And it’s not just Bhabhi, it’s been the same with all my shows — Kkusum, Waaris, Rihahee.

Bhabhi touched on a taboo relationship.. that between a devar and a bhabhi. Didn’t you get any hate mail?
You should ask the creative team that. Personally, I think, the viewers loved the show. How do you think the soaring TRPs came about?

You started working at a very early age.. in movies like Dancer, Hum Hain Kamal Ke, Kanyadan, Shikari and the weekly breakfast show, Tak Dhina Din. Did you always want to be an actress?
I was studying paramedical sciences and had no intentions of becoming an actress. But it was all meant to be. The minute I bagged Kali’s role in Kkusum, I knew this was forever.

Do you watch any of the shows on TV now?
Where’s the time? But I do manage to catch Balika Vadhu once in a while. And I still watch the repeat episodes of Friends. It’s de-stressing.

You worked in music albums too..
Yes, I worked with Gurdas Mann, Pankaj Udhas and Vaishali Samant. They are amazing professionals with superb work to their credit. And I’m a complete performer. I enjoyed the experience.

What about Saas v/s Bahu?
I love dancing and it showed. Reality TV is quick money, overnight fame and very enjoyable.

After Lottery will you be doing any mroe movies?
There are offers but nothing concrete has come up so far. Let’s see how it goes.
