Indian Idol on a concert trail

Sony TV is planning multiple concerts across the country to promote Indian Idol 5’s top 10. The series of concerts will reportedly wind up at London’s Wembley Auditorium in the second or third week of November.

Sony Entertainment’s ‘Desh Ki Awaaz’ concert featuring Mika Singh and Bappi Lahiri, along with the top 10 contestants of Indian Idol 5, including winner Sreeram, was held on the outskirts of Pune on Tuesday. It saw a turnout of over 7000 music buffs.

The channel is now planning multiple concerts across the country to promote Indian Idol 5’s top 10. “We had a concert to promote Abhijeet Sawant after he became the first Idol. It gave his career a big push. So, this season we’ve decided to have ‘Desh Ki Awaaz’ concerts across India. Swaroop Khan, Bhoomi and Sreeram are already quite popular,” informs Danish Khan, head of marketing, Sony Entertainment.

The series of concerts will reportedly wind up at London’s Wembley Auditorium in the second or third week of November.

Khan says that ideas are still being tossed: “The first concert was well attended. We’d like to see how well it does when we air it on our channel this Sunday. After gauging the TRPs, we’ll plan our next course of action. Various venues being considered but we can’t confirm anything before the ratings are out.”
