‘My husband and I are the oddest match’

Says Krutika Desai who’s playing a conservative mommy in Ram Milayee Jodi, a daily soap on Zee about two culturally diverse individuals making an odd pair.

She plays a ‘conservative’ Gujarati mother in the Zee daily, Ram Milayee Jodi. But Krutika Desai, best remembered as a princess on the Doordarshan show Chandrakanta, says that the show happened out of nowhere. “Do Saheliyaan had wrapped up abruptly. I was disappointed because the show closed in just three months. I was ready to pack for on a family vacation when this role came by. I loved the way writer and co-producer Rajita Sharma had constructed the story and characters,” says Desai.

The daily is about two culturally diverse individuals, who make an odd pair because their lifestyles and sensibilities don’t match. Does the actor know of any such pair in real life? “Mine!” exclaims Desai. “My husband Imtiaz and I are different. Religion, our ways of looking at life, food choices (he’s non-vegetarian and I’m vegetarian) differ. But we’re happy because we accept our differences and work towards being on the same page as much as possible.”

Desai feels that the definition of an odd match is subjective: “Conventionally, people think that two individuals from similar backgrounds might click. But some also believe that extreme opposites work because each partner brings something different to the table. Within the entertainment industry, you’ll find both kinds of couples. Some will have worked and some will not have worked.”
