This isn’t the first time that rumours of Tina Dutta quitting her four-year-old show Uttaran have surfaced.
Every few months, the actor hears of reports claiming that she is leaving the Colors show in which she plays a double role — one of the self-sacrificing bahu, Ichcha, and the other of Ichcha’s daughter, Meethi. The death of Ichcha in an accident recently got the rumour mills working overtime again.
When contacted and asked about the rumour, Tina was shocked. “I was upset after reading the report. The worst part is that no one bothered to confirm the news with me or the channel. I think even the audience is tired of reading such stories,” says the irate actor, adding, “I think someone is spreading this news with an agenda. Maybe people like writing about me as only popular stars are talked about. I am bored of these rumours; they pop up every few months. This news is completely baseless.”
However, Tina does agree that Ichcha’s death and subsequent exit from the show might be the reason for this news. “With Ichcha out of the serial, the focus is now on Meethi. In order to develop a story around one character, the other had to die. The writers are working on developing Meethi’s role further; they want her to gain the same importance that Ichcha had. I hope the audiences love Meethi just as much.”
