Renukane Shahane returns to small screen with Fauji 2

After Pulkit Samrat agreed to do Fauji 2, reportedly Renuka Shahane-Rana has been taken on board to play Samrat’s mother in the second innings of the Doordarshan classic.

When asked about the show, Shahane-Rana said, “I’m not returning to TV right now because I’m working on my next script. I have to lock it and work out the cast and the other details. And frankly, I want to spend time with my children. TV will leave me with no time and a great deal of fatigue to deal with.”

However, she confirmed that she had been approached to play a mother’s role in Fauji 2 but says, “nothing has been sealed on that front.”

“I was approached to play Pulkit’s mother. But after the initial talks, the production company hasn’t approached me again. It was an interesting and meaty role but I don’t know the current status on what’s happening to the show,” adds the actor-director.

Star Plus is also vying for Fauji 2 as one of its flagship shows on weekdays.

Shahane-Rana says that she’s unaware of the details because she’s been busy with working out the details on sending her directorial debut Rita for the MAMI Film Festival. “This is the first time I will be attending any film festival as the director of a film. So, I have been mighty busy finishing last minute paperwork and finalising other details. It’s a matter of pride for me that the film not only turned out well, it also got great reviews from everyone,” beams Shahane-Rana.
Quiz her if her kids have seen the film and she promptly says, “I haven’t exposed them to the film because it has a bold subject. The content is not adult but it’s too early for my children to know anything about these subjects.”

“My elder one could possibly relate with the film but I’m sure the younger one would detest it,” she says. Ask her why and she smiles, “Rita kept me so occupied for almost a year and a half. I didn’t give enough time to my younger son. He’s still angry about it. I need to do some damage control there, which means I can’t take on assignments, which keep me too tied up all day.”
